OneHourOne
Toronto beta · free · 18+

One person. One hour. One real conversation.

Once a week, OneHourOne introduces you to one person you have never met, for a private hour on video. Before the call you know only their first name. Everything else you find out by asking.

Free, always Sundays only Once a week, never more No profiles, no photos

YouThey will know your first name.

SomeoneYou will know their first name.

What this is

A conversation, not a connection request.

Most of what we call social software is really an audience. You collect people, you perform a little, and you rarely say anything you were not already thinking. OneHourOne does the opposite. One stranger, one hour, no audience, and nothing to keep afterwards unless you both decide otherwise.

People talk about their week, their work, their city, their families, the thing that has been bothering them for a month. Some conversations are light. Some are not. Both are fine.

It is

  • Two adults, talking, for an hour
  • Private, and not recorded
  • Free, with no upgrade to buy
  • Once a week at most, on purpose
  • Over when the hour is over

It is not

  • A dating app
  • Therapy or crisis support
  • Networking or a sales channel
  • A feed, a profile, a follower count
  • A score you build up to show off

How it works

7 steps

From signing up to saying goodbye.

  1. 1You register once, privately. We verify you are a real adult. Your details stay with us.
  2. 2Each week, you say whether you are in.Skip as many weeks as you like. Nobody is penalised for sitting one out.
  3. 3We match you with one person.Matched on language, age range and the hour you picked. Never on looks, job or income.
  4. 4You both get a time and a private video link.Sent the Friday before. The link works only for the two of you.
  5. 5You meet, knowing only a first name.Prompts are there if the silence gets uncomfortable. Most people stop needing them.
  6. 6The hour ends, and the call ends with it.No obligation to swap contact details. If you both want to, that is yours to arrange.
  7. 7You privately rate the conversation.Ratings are never shown to anyone. They exist so we can remove people who behave badly.

The limit

Once a week. That is the whole design.

A product you can only use for one hour a week cannot become a habit you resent.

We could let you book five conversations tomorrow. It would grow faster and it would ruin the thing. Scarcity is what makes an hour with a stranger feel worth showing up for, rather than another notification to clear.

So: one match per week, maximum. Miss a week and nothing happens; your slot is offered to someone on the waitlist. When it is offered, we say “a conversation has opened for Sunday at 7:30 p.m.” — never whose slot it was. Letting people pick each other by name would put back exactly the judgement we took out.

Safety

Unknown to each other. Never anonymous to us.

The mystery sits between the two of you. It does not extend to OneHourOne, because a platform that does not know who its members are cannot protect them.

Verified adults only

Real name, verified email and phone, and confirmation you are 18 or older, before your first match.

Leave, block, report

One click, any time, no explanation owed. Leaving early is never held against you.

No recording

Recording is off, and is not permitted unless both people clearly agree on the call.

Private ratings

Nobody sees their own score or anyone else's. Ratings flag behaviour to us, nothing more.

Removal that sticks

Harassment, sexual conduct, sales pitches or repeated no-shows end membership permanently.

Preferences honoured

You can limit matches by age range, language and gender. We do not ask you to justify it.

OneHourOne is not therapy. The person you meet is an ordinary community member, not a counsellor, therapist or crisis worker. Talk about whatever you want to talk about, but please read the note at the bottom of this page if you need real support.

The pilot

4 weeks

Forty people. Four Sundays. Toronto and the GTA.

We are running the first four weeks by hand, with a small group, so we can watch every conversation land before we build anything. Three start times each Sunday. You pick the ones that work, and we do the rest.

Put your name down for the beta.

Everything below stays private. The only thing your match ever sees is your first name.

The one thing your match will see.

Private. Used only to verify you are a real person.

For the reminder text only. Never shared.

The beta is 18 and over.

Which Sunday times work for you?

Pick as many as you can. More options means an easier match.

A safety setting, not a dating one. No reason needed.

We collect these details to verify you and to match you, and for nothing else. We do not sell data and we do not build a public profile from it. Reply to any email from us to have everything deleted.

Questions

The things people ask first.

Is it really free?

Yes, and it stays free. If OneHourOne ever earns anything it will be from light advertising shown before or after a conversation, or from community and employer sponsorship. Never from you, and never during your hour.

Is this a dating app?

No. There are no photos, no profiles and nothing to swipe. Romantic or sexual approaches are the fastest way to be removed. People do sometimes become friends, and that is theirs to arrange after the call.

Do I have to turn my camera on?

Video is encouraged, because an hour is easier when you can see a face. You can ask for audio-only on your first call: say so in the form and we will match you with someone who is happy with that.

What if it is awkward?

The first five minutes usually are. We send a short list of prompts with your link. And if the conversation genuinely is not working, you can leave at any point without explaining yourself.

Can I meet the same person again?

Not through us — you will never be matched with the same person twice. If you both want to keep talking, swap contact details at the end of the call.

Who sees my rating?

Only us. Ratings are never shown to members. They exist so we can spot people who are consistently disrespectful or who do not show up, and remove them.

I am not in Toronto. Can I join?

Not for this pilot, but put your name down anyway and tell us where you are. Toronto is where we start, not where we stop.
